From photographs taken by the artist during a sail on the Bay. This
painting shows the Iwo Jima Class Amphibious
Assault Ship NEW ORLEANS (LPH 11) being towed on October 19, 2006 from
the Pacific Reserve Fleet in Suisun Bay
through the Golden Gate on its way to be sunk at Brownsville, Texas. The
NEW ORLEANS was launched in 1968 and
during her career received a Navy Unit Commendation, four Battle Efficiency
Awards, a Meritorious Unit Commendation,
the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the
Southwest Asia Campaign Medal, the Vietnam
Service Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. She was decommissioned on
1 October 1997.
